This throne is so cool! I really want to keep this technique in mind. It looks like it would be a lot of fun.

I really like it. Best part is, the seat comes off! So, once Malice arrives with her Handy Hands bundle and middle and high feet, I have a place to store them. I like keeping my Makie stuff close to the Makie itself. Vencka has her garden and garden furniture, Fáelán has his room with furniture and tv, Malice has a throne. So far. I'm sure she'll be demanding stuff more forcefully than Vencka does... We'll see.... Maybe a staff of power? I can see it! A Makie with a Staff Of Power! Bwahaha (insert evil laugh here)!

It's really easy! But remember, styrofoam will melt if you use the wrong paint (like those terpentine based paints). So, you have to seal it real well if you use those type of paints.
Sand with glue is a good base, you can water it down a bit but I wouldn't recommend that. The thicker the base coat, the stronger the item. Styrofoam is real soft, so if you intent to play with it a lot, use thick layers. Then you can paint it any color you like. I did a black base, so the cracks show up after painting. Then with a dry brush technique (pick up paint with a brush, then whipe the brush nearly clean with some paper towel and lightly highlight the item) I used a couple of different grey's. Dark to light and lesser paint per layer. That way you get a nice item with many subtle hints of color.

It's fast painting too! Just make sure your base color covers your model fully. It's hard to go back to black after finishing your project.

Yeah, I'm acrylic paints all the way. I don't like the smelly paints at all. But I didn't know those could melt styrofoam. That's...disconcerting.

If you use acrylic you don't have to worry. As long as they come out of a can. Spray paint is no good.
