Yes! It's really cool to have someone else's work. I'm sure it's also nice to have a close up look at her face and how it was done. I've never seen anyone else's Makie in person except when I received Allie and Garrak, who were untouched.

In terms of fabric, I'm pretty much looking for stuff that is good for doll clothes making and can be combined with quilter's cotton. Basically, I've been trying to branch out since I started to feel like all I ever buy is quilter's cotton. No self control! On the other hand, I'm fine cutting sort of a big square of the alova and putting it into a greeting card for nothing in return.

Or silly food-print quilter's cotton. I'm always looking for that. You can't base your dolls on rats without making the occasional fries-print skirt...

I know what you mean about another person's makie. I was so excited looking at Sioux's work when I got Vicky and John. Like "oooo look at this! and this!" hah. They're so different to how I paint.

omg.. fries print skirts??? this sounds AMAZING

It's something I made for Poppy this winter. Poppy loves fries. I'll have to get a picture up. It's some of that silly kitchen decorator fabric with big food on it and the fries are way out of scale. I also have apple and blueberry. Aagh, so stupid I can't resist!

Fries, ha! That is cute. I don't think I have any food related prints. I'll have to rummage and see if I can find you something cute though.

I've posted the fries skirt in "Poppy likes", in case anyone's curious to see it.

You know, I just realized I never really followed up about that fabric. Did you still want me to send it?

I've been lusting after spoonflower fabrics hahaha, they have such cute nerdy designs. Are the test watches big enough to make anything useful out of?

I think I found something else that will work, but thanks so much for offering. Also, I know you said you didn't need any trade in return, but I checked my stash and didn't see anything trade worthy. I have a lot of larger vintage patterns on thicker fabric that just isn't ideal for doll clothing.

p_m - the sample may be big enough for a small project. I can't say for sure as I ordered the smallest size above "sample". I managed to get a skirt, a dress, and probably still have enough left for another piece of clothing.

Sour update - I dyed her green (with Rit kelly green and golden yellow mixed in relatively equal parts) and gave her a face. The picture doesn't quite capture her color, but it is pretty much full on Hulk green hehe. I'm loving this character!

She is wearing a loaner wig, stolen from Thistle (the name of my other new makie, mentioned earlier). I think she may need messy dreads, or at least a messy fur wig. I've been hunting, but so far nothing has been quite right.

Ooo dreads! I'm working on an idea for dreads, but i'm yet to get off my butt and start trying to make the wig itself lol. I was thinking soft wig caps would mean you could sew the premade dreadlocks on, but i'm not certain how good it'll look.

But yes, she totally needs some sort of messy "do" hahah.

I love her colour. I'm super tempted to next sale get my goblin boy and dye him green hehehe, I want a green boy and this only makes me want one more.

DOO IT! haha sorry. Seriously though, I'm afraid Sour is my gateway into a dyed Makie army. The first of too many colorful weird fantasy characters....yikes.

I've been watching dread wig tutorials, and will probably have to make my own too. I like customizing, but honestly I'm not looking forward to making my own wig....at all

Wow, Sour is super gorgeous! (Er, or other positive word about appearance that she might prefer!)
I love the face-up work, the colour variation in the little speckles/freckles is perfect.

Dreads would look fantastic I think. I imagine they'd be well worth it, after you got through with making them.

Wow, she looks great! I'm glad to see how well rit works--I've got some I'd like to use on a Makie myself. I don't envy you making a wig, but it could help to try a crochet wig cap. If you haven't already figured out a wig method.

How long did you dye her for?

Thanks all! I know she isn't the conventional cute makie, but there is something striking about her.

Sour was in the dye bath for around 6 minutes. A couple notes on the method I used. I pre-washed the parts and made sure they were wet when added to the dye (I think this helped the color to be more even). I added the cup of white vinegar recommended for this material. I used the stove top method which did involve high heat to disolve the dye propperly and then a constant low heat for the actual dying. A different combination of conditions could probably slow the process for a less saturated color.

I'm thinking there used to be at least one or two people around making dreadlock wigs for various sized dolls. Have you tried checking on etsy for BJD dreadlock wigs? You might be able to find someone to make the wig you need, instead of having to attempt making one yourself. ^_^

There are a couple Etsy shops with dread wigs listed. Nothing currently listed fits her look. I thought about checking into some custom work. I may still. Exact color is still in question.

yeah a few people  make them, even Monique has one (it's called Reeva) but they're very expensive.

Oo I feel like a mossy greenish brown or a brown would work great heh.

Uploading photos to the forum from my tablet is near impossible, so now that I finally have a moment on my PC, I can share the outcome of Sour's dreadlock wig adventure here. I ended up sewing the individual wet felted dreads into a standard black fur wig for a bit of added scruff.

I freaking love her...still no clothes though.

I also made a needle felted wig and some boho clothes for Thistle. Sour stole her original wig, and I took the opportunity to go a new direction.

And now that I think about it, have I shared Mark here?....I've let my forum threat get so far behind!

Wow, that wig! It's so perfect. Is it felted? Also, the boho outfit on Thistle is charming, as is Mark. He's got a sweet face. It's great to see the update and all your rainbow of monster high.

Did Mark come with those boots? I was a little sad to see another pair of black flats with my latest Makie when everyone was getting those cool red sneakers. Oh well, can't have everything I want, can I? Maybe I had better just buy another Makie.

Sour's wig is felted using the wet technique. I should probably add an informational thread about it. But really I just watched some "how to" videos for human size/style dread extensions on youtube and scaled them down.

Mark did come with the boots instead of the flats. I'm glad, but I already had a red pair like them. So I dyed them a dark purply black (I had a bunch of pre-mixed dye hanging out in my studio for other things). Sorry you ended up with the black flats again. :-(
