Are the knees and elbows supposed to come off?

Post by legendarynarwhal on Fri Apr 17, 2015 12:59 pm

I saw in an old Makie guide that knees and elbows aren't supposed to come apart, but since then the joints have changed and I have managed to get them off a couple times. IT WAS EXASPERATING.
Are they supposed to come off?

I don't think they're meant to be pulled off too often, but they do come apart. the whole body clips together after all. but the flange and ball means they are a bit fragile and too much yanking or twisting may crack something (one of my girls has a crack in her shoulder from trying to force her arm into a shirt... oops?)
I've not managed to yank the knees off yet, but it should be possible. Just... probably not wise to do too many times.

Yeah, I definitely don't think the lab intended for the elbows and knees to be taken apart. But to be fair I'd never really thought of trying either, just assumed.

Am I supposed to be able to remove her head?

The head can be removed. When your Makie is new, posing her can cause her head to pop off. As she ages, the neck joint will become looser and the head will not be so stiff, making posing easier.

If you want to remove the head, grasp the body in one hand and the head in your other hand (I like to put the neck between my first two fingers when I do this) and just pull straight up from the body.

Thanks for the info, it will help a lot with dressing her. I tried moving her head about a bit so now she can look side to side which she couldn't do earlier. But she seems happy! Smile

No problem! When I get a new Makie it's always hard to adjust to the stiffness since I'm used to my older girls' "broken in" joints. I usually manage to just pull the head right off within the first couple of days. The neck is very sturdy! It's also worth noting that I have a Makie printed in 2013 who holds a pose wonderfully. And a Makie who has been mostly disassembled and boiled in dye and vinegar for 3 minutes with no negative effect to the joints.
