Quin, The 3D-Printable Doll

Post by sigsi on Thu Jan 07, 2016 8:21 pm

Anyone else hear of these? Two 3d printed dolls are in this line (not really customizable, but still interesting).

sadly you have to print them yourself, which isn't so easy if you have no access to a printer heh.

Ahh I missed that little tidbit in there at first look. Bleck. Explains the price though. Eh eventually 3d printers might drop...maybe. Razz

Someone on the MLP Arena Forum had been enthusiastic about them. She likes to print her own stuff though. There is also a shop on Etsy - Clumsy Blasters - that sell printed versions of Quin with different configurations and features. She is neat, and if I had a printer I'd be all over the idea.

I've seen printable mods for Quin on Thingiverse. I thought she looked interesting but since I don't have a 3D printer or access to one yet I've decided to pass for now. I need to see if our local makerspace even has a 3D printer yet, the last time I heard anything they mostly had woodworking tools and electronics kits. If they've got a 3D printer and offer classes on how to use it then I'll be tempted to pay the monthly fee to join.

If I had a printer, I'd likely buy the pattern and try to make Quin, too. Though, I can't really see being satisfied with her to the same extent as a Makie.

I checked the clumsy blasters etsy store--their Quin isn't quite as high-resolution as the 3D kitbash version. And then I remembered that I paid $84 for Lizzie, just $4 more than Quin from etsy! I swear, I'll love my Makies forever.

Agreed, she is no substitute for a makie for me. Her face draws me in less. I think I relate to her on more of an action figure level, and would print her in awesome colors to be left unclothed. I just want a 3D printer so badly! Lol
